For the record, I knew this would suck. The only reason I bothered was because I realized I was two or three movies away from having seen every film made this decade to be based on a Marvel comics property. This was only slightly better than I expected it to be (my expectations were at rock bottom). Really the whole thing was dumb to begin with, taking a movie that most people didn?t like to begin with and making a spinoff based on the character everyone disliked the most. Ths is pretty much a two hour version of the scene in Daredevil where Elektra fights sandbags to Evanescence music. Some of the effects were allright I guess, the tattoo guy was kind of cool, but everything else is boring as hell. Midway through I started playing around with the DVD audio options and switched it to the French track just to amuse myself. That?s never a good sign.

One sentence says it all, as to why I rated this a 2-star film: The villains were cooler than the heroine. In a superhero movie, that should NEVER be the case--unless it's Spiderman. I still feel jipped with the Venom Sam Raimi gave me, even though I love Sam Raimi. Venom's one of my favorite villains of all time. The only reason this movie got 2 stars is because the villains were cool. The rest of the film is kinda disappointing.

Reprising her character from the (rather dull) Daredevil movie, Jennifer Garner is resurrected from the dead as a deadly assassin to save a girl whose talents are being squabbled over by the forces of good and evil. Quite why this is, I'm not sure as her talents appeared to be nothing more than being quite good at kung fu, although nowhere near as good as anyone else in the film. I have to say, it shares a lot in common with the previous film. There are some nice visual effects, particularly those involving Tattoo's living body art and the action is adequately handled, but there really is not enough of it. The only attempts to flesh out Elektra's character are a constant stream of clumsy flashbacks of the same single event and Garner doesn't really have the charisma to carry a film on her own; more often than not she resembles the captain of the cheerleading squad rather than an enigmatic and cold blooded assassin. All the peripheral cast are equally uninteresting, Terence Stamp once again turning up for the paycheck and sporting a shock of white hair atop the kind of orange tan that a game show host would be proud of. This combined with a soulless and by the numbers script that lacks any real character and the result is never terrible; just instantly forgettable.

I adore Jennifer Garner, but not enough to see me through this film. The love interest is crap, there's no back story or explanations, Terence Stamp might as well not be in it for all the effort he gives his performance and the storyline is just atrocious. The fight scenes are obviously choreographed, there's plenty of gratuitous moments and the relationships are just nonexistent. Poor Jennifer Garner.
